The Nissan Teana is a midsize car developed by Nissan, which was launched in 2003.

It was traded as the Nissan Cefiro and Nissan Maxima in certain markets. For the first time, Teana was introduced towards the end of year 2003 in the Japanese domestic market.

Now, let’s take a look at various generations of this amazing sedan.

J31 (2003-2008)

(2003-2006) Nissan Teana
First generation Nissan Teana models had three engine choices – 3498 cc, 2349 cc, or 1998cc engine, connected to the automatic transmission. Moreover, the vehicle was produced in different trim levels such as 200JK, 350JM, 230JM, and 230JK.

At that time, the vehicle was designed on the platform of Nissan FF-L. In middle of 2005, Teana got new tail lights and headlights, enlarged foglights, chrome trimming on the bumpers, newly-designed gauges, and front leg-rests.

The vehicle was slightly shortened, and the clear rear turn signals were substituted by amber ones. In addition to the above changes, the XTronic CVT was also offered for all the engines.

(2006-2008) Nissan Teana

In some of the markets, the 200JK was not offered; in Australia, the car was traded in Ti-L, Ti, and ST-L guises, while the Ti-L model was discontinued after the re-entry in 2005. Dongfeng released 1/18 and 1/43 scale models in the market to support the vehicle upon its introduction in China. In 2008, the development of J31 was discontinued.

J32 (2009-Present)

2009 Nissan Teana

Nissan unleashed the new, modified Teana at the 2008 Beijing Auto Show. The new Teana is designed on the platform of Nissan D, which is also utilized by the new Nissan Altima, and Nissan Maxima.

The vehicle was equipped with 3498 cc V6 engine, while the base 1997 cc in-line four cylinder engine remained unaltered; the mid 2495 cc V6 engine was also on the offer for 2009. All engines were coupled to a continuously variable transmission, and the vehicle’s design was based on the Intima concept shown in October, 2007.

International Markets

The vehicle has been introduced in Japan, India, Taiwan, China, Russia, Chile, Brunei, Thailand, Trinidad and Tobago, Indonesia, Singapore, Australia, and New Zealand. It was then introduced in China in 1/8 scale models.

Badging

The 1st generation Teana was sold under the label of Nissan Cefiro in Brunei, Singapore, Hong Kong, and Latin America & Caribbean, whereas it was traded under the label of Teana in Japan, Philippines, Thailand, Taiwan, India, Indonesia & China, and Malaysia.

Modified version of Teana is called Altima in North America and Maxima in Australia & New Zealand, while the J32 has been sold in Australia as Maxima with model emblems 250 ST-L, 350Ti, and 350 ST-S. The Cefiro label wasn’t seen in the 2nd generation line-up, and currently the new Nissan Teana in one of the top-performing contenders in its segment in Indian, and Japanese markets.
